During Literacy Group sessions, the year 6 students increased their knowledge about immigrants coming to Australia. They examined not only where in the world they came from, but also why so many people decided to begin a new life in Australia. The students selected a country that they had a connection with or were interested in and discovered many interesting facts. It also involved atlas reading skills and stimulated much discussion about the individual students’ backgrounds and why their relatives decided to migrate to Australia.
