Konichiwa! As part of Year 3’s Inquiry topic ‘Australia and its Neighbours’, students were immersed in various cultures. In my class (Mrs Chan), the students learnt about Japan. The experience began with students learning quick facts about Japan, for example – Japan still has at least 60 active volcanoes! I also showed photos and shared my Japanese experience, including wearing a kimono and sitting in a bullet train (shinkansen). The students then participated in rotation activities that included making origami shirts, learning to use chopsticks, playing traditional Japanese games and learning more facts about Japan on an interactive website. They thoroughly enjoyed learning about Japan! Arigato (Thank you)!
