In Year 6 this term, our Inquiry topic is ‘Australian Stories’. We have been learning about the differences between immigration, migration and emigration. We are reading various migration stories, so we can learn about people’s experiences and reasons for coming to Australia.

Even our parents were migrants!

Ayah: My mum migrated to Australia from Lebanon at the age of 5.

Nevin: My grandma migrated from Turkey.

Nelinsa: My family and I moved to Australia when I was 6 years old. We moved here from Sri Lanka.

Luka: My dad was born in Australia and then moved to Serbia when he was 4 years old. He then migrated back to Australia when he was about 21.

Cruz: My dad was born in Chile and migrated to Australia when he was 8 years old and moved because he wanted a better life with family.

Did you know? Paul Jennings (author) migrated to Australia from England when he was only 6 years old. His family moved to Australia because they believed it would be safer and a good place to start a new life, after World War 2.
