This year the Year 5 Indonesian students from Thomas Mitchell Primary School participated in a Penpal letter exchange program with Ngupasan Primary School, located in Central Java, Indonesia. The TMPS students wrote their first letter in Indonesian to their penpal, sent them off and eagerly waited for a response. Today they finally received their first letter from their penpals and thoroughly enjoyed reading and translating them. This has been a wonderful opportunity for both schools to engage in a real life learning task and to build their intercultural capabilities at the same time. This first letter exchange marks the beginning of an ongoing intercultural connection between the two schools. I look forward to continuing the program in 2020!
